Under Kateryna Yakunchenkova’s leadership, Al Safina Security Group was recognized in 2016 and 2017 as “Best Maritime Security Company in the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent” by The Maritime Standard Awards under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Bin Sayeed Al Maktoum. In addition to her managerial responsibilities, Yakunchenkova serves on the UAE board of WISTA, the Women in Shipping and Trading Association. She is also a co-founder of Assol, a non-profit organization established to protect and support Ukrainian seafarer’s rights. Yakunchenkova has authored numerous articles on combating piracy, global maritime security issues in the 21st century, and related subjects. She holds a Diploma of Magister of Political and Social Sciences from Odessa National University and is on the faculty of the International Relations/Social Sciences Institute.
