Al Faris Transported 19 Vessels for a Crude-Oil Production Facility in Abu Dhabi

Al Faris transported 19 various vessels covering a distance of 150km using our hydraulic multi axle trailers (PST & THP) for an expansion project.

*The crude-oil production facility expansion will allow production capacity to increase from 420,000 barrels to
450,000 barrels of oil per day in 2020.

This project was completed in different stages over a period of 3 months.

Al Faris provided our client with a complete solution for loading these vessels from different manufacturer’s locations to Hamriyah and Jebel Ali Port. We then received these vessels at Mussafah port, which is opperated by Abu Dhabi Ports, and land transported as well as off-loaded to our clients’ site.

The transportation which was critical in nature due to close proximity to a live plant, required specialized techniques, equipment and experienced staff.

All road surveys, planning, technical support documentation, authority permissions, execution plans and schedules were prepared in-house prior to job execution. This helped organize all activities smoothly with minimum delays. Execution was safely carried out by our trained engineers and operators.

After careful consideration and study of the loads, our Goldhofer hydraulic multi axle & self-propelled trailers up to 68 axle lines were used for transportation and our Liebherr 1000t, 600t and 400t crawler cranes were used for off loading purposes at various locations inside the plant.

We also provided a strong commitment and focus to adhere to best QHSE practices during transportation and on-site which was discussed in detail with the client prior to the commencement of any operations.

CHALLENGES

One of the challenge was to cross ADNOC Gas Pipelines which are at a depth of around 2m from the ground level. An axle load of less than 08t / axle was maintained for crossing with all necessary permits as well as approvals from DOT (Department of Transport) and ADM (Abu Dhabi Municipality). Maximum Combination of upto 68 axle lines were used for crossing the heaviest load of 293t.

The other big challenge was to cross the Etihad rail. Al Faris conducted an extensive engineering study and proposed a solution to design and fabricate a customized temporary steel bridge. The bridge was analyzed for its load distribution. The proposal was approved by Etihad railway technical team & stakeholders.

The crossing was executed in a very constraint time frame. A window of 06 hours was provided for bridge installation, crossing & removal of bridge for 4 cargos.

Others: Transportation on uphill & downhill roads, crossing under electric power lines with restricted heights, maneuvering extremely tight roundabouts and bottle neck turns/roads.

Total 19 vessels of which maximum dimensions are listed below:
  • 1st Stage Separator – 293t (32m (L) x 7.5m (W) x 8m (H))
  • Dewatering Separator – 252t & 157t
  • Slug Catcher – 210t
  • H2S Stripper Column – 141t
  • 2nd Stage Separator – 130t
