The Port Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea is an autonomous public body with planning, coordination, and strategic development functions to create an integrated port system, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and investment for the region and national and international traffic. It coordinates and governs the port system, which includes the ports of La Spezia and Marina di Carrara.

La Spezia is the 2nd container port in Italy for direct access to the production and consumption markets of northern Italy, with weekly connections to all continents: Asia, North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. La Spezia is a centre of excellence in shipbuilding and yachting, hosting some of the most important shipyards in Europe.

Marina di Carrara is located in the eastern Ligurian Sea, with around 5 million tons handled annually, it is today a very important port for the projects cargoes, containers, ro-ro, stone products, solid bulk and general cargoes.
