Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) was established in 2006 by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to develop and operate a modern railway network that enhances connectivity and drives economic growth. Today, SAR manages and operates a 5,000 km railway network, linking key cities, industrial hubs, and ports across the Kingdom.
Its services span passenger transport, freight logistics, and high-speed rail, covering the North-South Railway (NSR), the Eastern Railway, and the Haramain High-Speed Railway (HHR), which serves millions of travelers annually. SAR also manages and operates the Al-Mashaer Metro, ensuring the seamless movement of millions of pilgrims during the Hajj season.
As a key enabler of Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), SAR is committed to "Bridging Distances, Building Tomorrow." By providing sustainable and efficient rail solutions, SAR reduces road congestion, lowers carbon emissions, enhances road safety, and strengthens supply chain efficiency across industries such as mining, petrochemicals, and agriculture. In 2024, SAR transported more than 13 million passengers and moved over 28 million tons of goods and minerals, eliminating more than 2 million truck trips annually—a major step toward preserving infrastructure, enhancing logistics, and supporting a greener future.
