The Leading Event for the Project Cargo and Breakbulk Industries in the Middle East

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), companies are facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Among these industry leaders is EPC Técnicas Reunidas, a name synonymous with excellence in the execution of complex industrial projects worldwide. Recently, at Breakbulk Middle East, Leslie Meredith from Breakbulk Events and Media had the opportunity to discuss the strategic presence and future plans of Técnicas Reunidas with the company’s head of purchasing, Alberto Solana, who joined the gathering from his Madrid headquarters.

"EPC Técnicas Reunidas is proud of its significant footprint in the Gulf Region," Solana said. "Our presence spans across the Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait. These regions represent our core business, with a series of ongoing projects crucial to our global strategy."

The GCC, rich in oil and natural resources, is a vital area for Técnicas Reunidas. Alberto elaborates on the company’s concentration on the oil and gas sector, particularly in petrochemical and refinery industries, partnering with regional giants like Saudi Aramco and ADNOC. "Our projects here are not just numbers; they symbolize our commitment to excellence and sustainability in one of the world's most resource-rich landscapes," he said.

Navigating Through Challenges

Despite his company’s success, Solana doesn’t shy away from discussing the myriad of challenges EPCs face in today's market. "One of the main challenges is adapting to the rapid pace of technological advancements and incorporating them into our projects. Additionally, navigating through the complexities of local regulations and striving for sustainability amid the global energy transition are significant hurdles."

These hurdles are not unique to the GCC; they are global challenges that EPC companies grapple with worldwide. "Whether it’s in Europe, Asia, or the Americas, the essence of the challenge remains the same. It's about innovation, adaptation, and sustainable growth," Alberto reflects.

Diversifying Beyond Oil and Gas

While EPC Técnicas Reunidas has built its name on oil and gas projects, the company is actively expanding its portfolio to include energy transition projects. "We are investing in renewable energy projects, carbon capture, and storage technologies as part of our commitment to sustainability," Alberto shares. This strategic pivot is reflective of the broader industry trend towards greener alternatives and the global push for reducing carbon footprints.

The Experience of Breakbulk Middle East

When asked about his experience at the Breakbulk Middle East event, Solana's response is overwhelmingly positive. "This event has been a fantastic opportunity for networking. Meeting major players in the industry, who we have worked with for many years, in one place is invaluable. The interactions, knowledge exchange, and discussions at these events are crucial for fostering innovation and collaboration."

Future Engagements and Plans

Looking ahead, Solana is optimistic about Técnicas Reunidas' participation in the next Breakbulk event. "We are already looking forward to our participation in Breakbulk Europe in Rotterdam, closer to our headquarters. Such events are pivotal for us to showcase our advancements, learn from our peers, and strengthen our global partnerships."
