Dr. Aysha Al Busmait, IMO Goodwill Ambassador and Corporate Communications Director, UAE Federal Transport Authority-Land & Maritime

Dr. Aysha Al Busmait is the current Director of Government Communications at the Federal Transport Authority for Land & Maritime UAE (FTA). The highly educated Al Busmait holds two Masters Degrees: a Masters in Mass Media from Cairo University (1999), and also a Masters in Sports Management from the American University in the Emirates (2016). Additionally, Al Busmait is a PhD holder in Mass Communication (2004), also from Cairo University.

In her current role with the FTA, Al Busmait is effectively contributing to enhancing the UAE’s leading maritime infrastructure. Accordingly, Al Busmait was a major contributor to the country’s successful re-bid for Category-B membership within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council. The noteworthy accomplishment enabled the UAE to be the first Arab nation to hold such a distinction. Most recently, her industry advancing efforts were recognised in her election as the first Emirati Woman to boast the title of IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador. This merit is one of many, as Al Busmait’s highly decorated career includes honours such as the ‘Emirates Women Award,’ the ‘H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Motherhood’ from the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care & Special Need, and the ‘Social Services Department Award for Motherhood,’ among many others.

Passionate about developing regional and international maritime capabilities, Al Busmait plays an active role in encouraging and empowering ambitious females to pursue and excel in the industry. She has also been featured in several literary publications, as well as various scientific publications. In her spare time, Al Busmait is a dedicated mother and engages herself in various philanthropic efforts by volunteering in numerous activities which assist women and individuals with disabilities.
H.E Eng. Hessa Ahmed Al Malek, Executive Director, UAE Federal Transport Authority-Land & Maritime

H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek has 14 years’ worth of experience in the Ministry of Works. From 2000-2006, she worked as a Site Engineer and Project Manager, overseeing the planning and development of remote areas in UAE. In 2006, she was named Head of Roads Design and Planning, promoted to Director of the roads department in just one year. Al Malek served as Assistant Undersecretary for prepared works affairs from 2012-2013 and Director of Urban Planning from 2013-2014, before taking on her current position. Al Malek earned her bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from UAE University and holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning/Traffic Planning from the American University of Sharjah.
Jasamin Fichte, Managing Partner, Fichte & Co Legal 
 
Jasamin Fichte is a dual-qualified English and German solicitor, specialising in maritime law. After studying in Hamburg and Southampton, she worked in London before moving to Dubai in 2002, where she served as legal counsel in the Middle East for Lloyd's of London. She established an excellent network within the maritime community and developed her legal skills further by handling marine insurance claims, from salvage, collisions and wreck removal to cargo claims and personal injury. In 2005, she opened Fichte & Co. which has since grown to represent not only shipowners, but clients from a variety of sectors and industries.
 
A regular conference speaker and panellist, Fichte also publishes frequent articles on aspects of marine, shipping and transportation law. For the last ten years, she has worked with the UAE Federal Transport Authority and the Dubai government on improving the maritime infrastructure. These efforts have culminated in her appointment as Chair of the Dubai Maritime Advisory Council, an authority with the mandate to advise the government on ways to improve the maritime infrastructure of Dubai.

 

​June Manoharan, Director, Lukoil Marine Lubricants

June Manoharan, Director of Lukoil Marine Lubricants, has firmly established herself throughout the international offshore oil and gas sector and maritime landscape. Boasting over over 25 years of expertise and industry know-how, June has solidified her position as one of Lukoil’s key decision makers. She currently oversees the company’s entire business scope for the Eastern hemisphere, stretching all the way from Africa to Australia.

Since joining the global Russian energy giants in 2010, June has successfully lead the charge in securing over 50% of the regional market share, and 15% of the international market share. Furthermore, June has been instrumental in the success of the Lukoil’s revolutionary iCOlube unit, an industry revolutionizing technology which reinforces the company’s innovative approach and technical expertise in its efforts to optimize operations and promote a greener environment.

Prior to this, June spent nearly 20 years at British Petroleum (BP) in both Oman and Dubai. Working across all functions at BP like, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Credit, Strategy and Planning, and Sales, she steadily climbed the ranks.  After finding her niche, June grew to be known for her business savvy while excelling in the role of Regional Sales Manager where she oversaw sales operations in the Middle East, Africa, India and sub-continent, and Asia.

In addition to balancing the challenges of motherhood and effectively navigating a largely male dominated industry, June is also a founding member of the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) in the United Arab Emirates. In October 2017, June was presented with ‘The Maritime Standard Woman in Shipping Award,’ an acknowledgement which celebrated her decorated journey through the industry.

During her post-secondary education, June specialized in Electronics Engineering in Sri Lanka. As her career progressed, she furthered her education by completing a CIMA and a marketing MBA.

June currently lives in Dubai, UAE. Her interests include golfing, swimming, cycling, reading, playing with her German Shepherd, and enjoying the company of her family and friends.
 
Sue Donoghue, Managing Director; Project Director, DHL Global Forwarding; Industrial Projects

Sue Donoghue is a seasoned logistics professional, having accumulated more than twenty years' worth of experience in the industry. She started her career in 2006 as a receptionist for a project forwarder, working her way up to a Senior Project Manager, managing multiple projects. She joined the DHL family in 2006, first as Head of Industrial Projects in London and in 2012, became Global Business Process Manager for the organisation, taking on the role of Global Head of Operations in 2016. In 2018, she took the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia where she was Project Director and most recently became Managing Director for DHL Global Forwarding in the Kingdom.
