Luis Bernat
International Chairman, ICS Key account Manager, Project cargo, EIMSKIP Denmark
An accomplished shipping executive with over 48 years of expertise in project, dry, reefer, and chemical tanker shipping. Demonstrated leadership in both commercial and operational management, with a proven track record of expanding a fleet from 2 to 21 ships. Extensive experience in global chemical and oil tanker trades, project cargoes, high-seas bunkering, ship-to-ship (STS) operations, and handling dry cargoes.
Adept at managing large teams while driving company’s growth and maintaining operational excellence. I began my career as a Dry and Reefer owner representative with J. Lauritzen before transitioning into the chemical tanker sector in the early 1980s. As a supercargo on Reefers and Bulk carriers, I worked extensively across Europe, North Africa, South America and the Middle East. My long-term assignments in Africa, South America and the Middle East provided invaluable insights into global shipping operations.
I held management roles in tanker broking firms in Spain before becoming CEO at a chemical commercial operator and later owner in Denmark, where I oversaw the commercial and operational aspects of a fleet of 21 chemical parcel tankers. I led a team of 16 to 21 employees for over 22 years. In 2019, I joined one of the leading chemical shipbrokers in the UK.
In March 2024, I joined EIMSKIP DENMARK as Key Account Manager, where I am currently responsible for developing the project, isotainer, liquid chemical, and reefer cargoes department, along with overseeing chartering activities.
